What we do
VCMS is a firm of specialists with a reputation for managing venture capital funds as well as its underlying investments. VCMS will source, filter, undertake due-diligence and facilitate the legal agreements for its clients.
This strategy allows the investor to leverage the tax incentive in order to achieve above average risk-adjusted returns.

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Malcolm practised as a partner of Grant Thornton (Chartered Accountant and Business Advisors) and was elected Managing partner of the Johannesburg office in 1986 and National Executive Chairman in 1989. Malcolm established MDM Private Equity Investment Fund in 1997 which he managed until acquired by Sasfin Holdings Limited in 2005. In February 2012, Malcolm resigned from the boards of both Sasfin Holdings Limited and Sasfin Bank Limited to enable him to pursue his passion – entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial funding activities. Malcolm currently sits on the boards of various companies in which he holds a private equity investment and, inter alia, is also an External Member of the Special Credit Committee of the IDC (Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Limited) and a member of the Listings Advisory Committee of AltX (Alternate Exchange of the Johannesburg Securities Exchange).
Jeffrey is a Chartered Accountant having completed his articles at Grant Thornton and has over 30 years’ experience investing in unquoted companies across numerous industries. Jeffrey co-founded Brandcorp, which was listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 1997. He brings many years of operational and investment skills to the company. He was a co-founder of KNR Flatrock, Balboa Finance, Born Free Properties, Eurosuit, Bride & Co., Seed Engine, Seed Academy and VCMS. Jeffrey is a pioneer of Section 12J Venture Capital Companies in South Africa and is an active member of various subcommittees of SAVCA and Simodisa, both of which focus their efforts on the South African Venture Capital industry.
Leat obtained her Bachelor of Arts from University of South Africa (Unisa) in 1995, she then went on to complete her LLB (Unisa) in 2002, whilst completing her LLB she worked as a Legal Advisor for Investec Investment Management Services (IMS) and thereafter Investec Asset Management from March 1999 to March 2002. Leat then left Investec to complete her law articles at Schindlers Attorneys until March 2003, and in June 2004 she was admitted as an attorney. In April 2004 to May 2013 Leat started her own entrepreneurial venture with her brother and uncle, called Fore Good Investments (“Fore Good”) for 8 and half years. She was the co-founder, shareholder and Managing Director from inception. Fore Good became a profitable and viable business after just over 2 years and was built into a formidable fast moving consumer goods business, having revenue of over R1 billion and employing over 5000 employees. Fore Good worked with various international companies such as Procter and Gamble (P&G), Kraft, Premier Foods, Kodak, Hama, Kellogg’s and Conagra. She then after having children, became Chief Legal Officer and HR Manager of Fore Good looking after the most important asset of our business, its’ employees. In August 2013 until December 2015 Leat returned back to legal fraternity, working in a niche legal practice called Rapeport Incorporated. From January 2016 until February 2017, Leat a minority shareholder and co-developer in an App called Wazupa (Online Trade and Investments (Pty) Ltd) that is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App store for download and she is further a minority shareholder and co-developer in an App called Mr Employ (All Employment Agency (Pty) Ltd) that she worked on until the Apple version was almost ready to go to market. In March 2017 to July 2017, Leat then joined Afrizan Personnel on a Business Development Project for 4 months. Today Leat heads up the Legal and Compliance role at VCMS, she loves the diversity of her role and has just worked on a new exciting fund of funds investment opportunity called Metta Capital Portfolio 1 that will launch in February 2018.
Adriaan Erasmus received his B. Com Degree in 2014 from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, he went on to complete his B. Com Honours Degree in the following year. In 2016 he passed his CFA level 1 exam, he is currently a CFA level 2 candidate registered to write in June 2018. He started his career as an Investment Analyst at Tindale Group, where he worked for a year before being afforded the opportunity to be part of the team at VCMS in 2017.
